Daring to Dream, a charity that supports the emotional health of patients in Wales, is running an inclusive in-home festival for people with chronic illnesses.
Lleswyl: The Daring to Dream Festival will air live on November 26 and comes after a successful first year for the new charity.
The aim of the charity is to support and promote the emotional health and well-being of adult patients in Wales through tangible means, by providing music and artistic programs, personal care services and transformations of day rooms for patients in hospital departments.
In Wales, many people living with chronic illness, disability, loneliness and isolation have suffered an additional disconnection from social interaction due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
Daring to Dream encourages people to reach out and invite their family, friends or neighbors to join them for the virtual festival, so that they can share a fun evening with each other.
With Welsh music icons Calan, Root Doctors, Afro Cluster, Dr & the Medics, Ify Iwobi and his Live Band, The Gentle Good, Philanthropy Jazz and established musicians from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama jazz, the night is ready to showcase musical diversity and please everyone.
The charity also ordered Lleswyl merchandise and arranged for the delivery of festival food to viewers, as well as the filming of festival makeup tutorials so viewers could have the full festival experience right at home.
The association also hopes to inspire donations overnight, so they can continue their vital work.
Barbara Chidgey, founder of Daring to Dream, suffers from active systemic lupus which has damaged key internal organs, including her heart, kidneys and lungs, causing her chronic pain, fatigue and brain fog. During her treatment, Barbara experienced several extended stays in hospital and saw first-hand the need for charity.
“Daring to Dream is all about supporting the emotional health of people with chronic illnesses because it is essential to focus on a positive life with chronic illness.
“Living with significant health problems has a huge impact on an individual’s emotional and psychological well-being. Daring to Dream adds value to the fantastic medical care and support patients receive, focusing on ways to support emotional well-being to complement clinical care.
“Lleswyl, our very first Daring to Dream festival, will be a great way for everyone to get involved and feel the joy of reconnecting with others, with music as a catalyst.
“As we come out of lockdown and return to live concerts and festivals, it is important to remember that there is no ‘new normal’ for those living with chronic illness or disability in the Land of Wales. It’s about bringing them the full festival experience in new ways.
Lleswyl: The Daring to Dream Festival will take place online on the evening of Friday, November 26th. You can register here https://lleswyl.eventbrite.co.uk to organize your own festival experience.
