The City of Melbourne has announced its latest round of fundraising activations to encourage visitors to the city, and the most eye-catching is a ‘Bike Valet’ scheme.
To encourage more visitors to Melbourne – particularly the still-struggling Docklands area – the City of Melbourne has announced a new round of funding for activation schemes, ranging from floral garden pop-ups along the river to a valet program that parks visitors’ bicycles. for them.
The Council’s City Activation Grants will provide over $800,000 in this funding round, to support pop-ups, performances and events across Melbourne from August to December. The successful grant recipients for the next four months are as follows.

- ‘Winter Sessions’ – bringing together emerging and established Melbourne musicians to create live music hubs in the Queen Victoria Market area, Lygon Street and Alexandra Gardens in August.
- ‘Florals by the Docklands’ – converting the waterfront precinct into a floral wonderland with spring-themed street art installations and projections in September.
- ‘Bike Valet’ – provides valet-style bike parking in Docklands, encouraging cyclists to make the most of the city’s September sunshine.
- “Salsa in the City” – dance and live music sessions across the city from September to December, at Queensbridge Square, Dukes Walk and Collins Landing.
- ‘Remember the Wild’ – an augmented reality experience about Melbourne’s past and future.
- ‘Creek Chat’ – a sound-based public art intervention amplifying the Williams Creek underground waterway in the CBD, acknowledging the journey the creek has traversed over Wurundjeri Land.
Recipients will receive up to $50,000 to support the delivery of their activation.
“We know Melburn locals and visitors alike can’t get enough of the town’s spectacular range of activations and pop-ups, which celebrate our world-class arts, music and cultural offerings,” said Mayor Sally Capp.
“The City Activation Grants program will give people an extra reason to explore every corner of the city, with pop-up salsa dancing, musical jam sessions, and video and augmented reality experiences among the programming designed to draw people in. .”
