Gorgi Coghlan was one of The Project’s longest-serving contributors before making the shocking announcement in July of leaving.
Old The project Panelist Gorgi Coghlan has revealed what prompted her to make the difficult decision to quit the program after 10 years.
The 46-year-old announced in July that she had decided to quit the Network Ten program, which at the time left its co-hosts “surprised and disappointed.” Stellar magazine reported.
Coghlan didn’t say she wanted to spend more time at Ballarat’s pub, Victoria, which she owns with her husband, Simon.
The couple bought The Provincial Hotel and its restaurant, Lola, in November 2018, and have since been at war with Covid shutdowns, forced shutdowns and ‘stressed staff’.
While many colleagues thought Coghlan was taking a much-needed break, the former Masked singer the candidate said she had in fact never been so busy since quitting.
“In terms of running a small business, it just took it up a notch because not only are you trying to pivot, pivot, pivot every week, but because we own the business, we had to lead a team that was smashed and broken, ”she said Stella.
“Hospitality is just shattered right now and we are at rock bottom. So we put a lot of energy into the business.
Not only did Coghlan achieve her business dreams, but she also set herself the goal of pursuing a career as a singer.
“For me, it’s better than broadcasting; singing is my absolute number one. When I sing, I am just transported to another place in time, ”she said.
“I feel like I’m doing what I was born to do, sharing what I’m meant to share, and really trying to affect people emotionally with my voice.”
Coghlan said after his appearance on the Masked singer in 2019 her passion “came back afloat” and she said to herself: “oh my god, this is what i want to do with my life”.
She recently gave two sold-out singing shows in Melbourne and was in the process of writing another one.
“Singing for me would be my biggest thing on my vision board and the biggest thing I talk about with my manager. I love music therapy. I love what music can do and how it can heal us, ”she said.
Who is Coghlan in contact with from The Project?
Coghlan was always in close contact with The project host Waleed Aly and his wife Susan Carland, whom she described as “dear friends to me”.
“I’m still talking to Waleed [Aly]. Him and his wife Susan [Carland] are both very dear friends to me. They’ve been here on the farm, ”she said.
“We couldn’t catch up because of the lockdown, but sometimes it’s just cheeky text. They are just really lovely, honest people.
Coghlan said she also heard from Lisa Wilkinson and Peter Helliar after her resignation.
“I love watching the show now, as a friend [and] from the sofa. I think the best way to describe my friendship with these guys is just that it sounds really easy and genuine, ”she said.
“They were surprised and disappointed that I was leaving, but they completely respected and understood my decision.”
