Watching a child grow up and become independent can be a moving experience for a parent. In typical mom fashion, Jenna Dewan got emotional when her daughter went to camp for the first time. Everly, 9, looked more ready for the big adventure than mom, according to Dewan’s Instagram photos.
An emotional send-off to summer camp
Sunday was Everly’s big day – it was time to leave for summer camp. That day seemed to have come too quickly for Dewan, 41, who captioned an Instagram Story with, “Then one day she grows up and wants to go to summer camp.” In a photo of Everly saying goodbye to her 2-year-old brother Callum, Dewan captioned, “She asked Callum for 20 hugs.” Dewan said she “held on until the car” and shared a photo of herself with tears in her eyes.
“From crying tears of joy watching Evie overcome stage fright, to successfully sending her off to camp, to brother sister hugs and Irish dancing and dove kisses, my heart is FULL this weekend,” said said Dewan captioned a photo carousel, also posted on Sunday. The photos included Callum dancing while watching his sister’s dance class, a photo of doves kissing and others. The comments section was a sea of red hearts, beautiful messages of support, and pure happiness.
Everly has found a new passion and Dewan couldn’t be more excited
Her daughter, along with her ex Channing Tatum, is growing up before our eyes. Dewan spoke to People in May about his daughter’s newfound passion. “Everly has been obsessed with Irish legends, folklore, music, all her life. Fairies, all that. I showed her Riverdance and she was like, ‘I want to do this mum, find me a place’,” she said. “So I found this woman [at] Irish Celtic Dance Academy in Burbank. We were there last week and she loves it but it’s hard. I’m so proud of her for persevering. She takes it very quickly. The ‘Step Up’ actress said she was supportive of her daughter’s newfound passion but didn’t want to get too excited and push her into it. “I’m scared she’ll fall in love with it, so I’m like, ‘Yeah, fine, we’re in a good place now,'” she said. Everly even had the chance to go to Ireland with her dad and loved it.
Child’s play is not in the cards for Everly
And while Everly is loving her newfound passion for dancing, Tatum and Dewan are on the same page, with Everly following in her famous parent’s acting footsteps. He told People, “Jenna and I have always been in agreement on this one. It’s quite difficult to be a child actor or artist. I also believe that if you really want to be a beautiful artist, you have to go live a real life. And I think kids in Hollywood, in general, there’s a lot of things that get in the way of living a very normal life in the world. Tatum went on to explain, “When she turns 18, she has lived a full life and she can make her own decision, so I will put her in anything and everything that I can possibly put her in because she will be the one. coolest thing in the world and she is the coolest thing in the world.
