Keith Urban struggled with his sobriety before quitting the party lifestyle to start a family with wife Nicole Kidman.
And now the country singer has admitted his marriage was a major factor in staying sober and staying out of trouble.
‘I would like to stay married!’ the 54-year-old told The sun this week.

“These days, I don’t do anything religiously to stay healthy,” he continued.
“I’m just doing what I have to so I can live the life I want to live. No more no less.’
Keith said staying on top of his successful career, which includes touring, releasing music and working as a mentor on The Voice Australia, also helps him stay sober.
“I want to be able to perform for hours on stage effortlessly and feel great the next day,” he said.

Keith recently recalled the time his wife Nicole staged an intervention for her addiction issues, in an excerpt from the book Keith Urban by Jeff Apter.
The country music superstar visited the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., in October 2006 after drinking while on tour.
Keith told Rolling Stone magazine in 2016 that he would have understood if Nicole, 54, had chosen to leave him, as the couple had only married that year.
“I was very, very lucky that Nic called an intervention on me,” Keith said, adding that his reckless behavior “caused my new marriage to implode.”

He also reflected on intervening with Oprah Winfrey, admitting to the famed talk show host that he “got off the rails” and “needed some help and some new direction” in his life.
Nicole, who was working in Rome at the time of her bender, returned to the United States and gathered her friends to organize an intervention.
“The love in that room at that time was perfect,” Keith told Oprah. “Seeing love in action this way…I had never experienced anything like this before.”
Keith has been open about his past struggles with alcohol addiction and revealed at the South By Southwest conference in Texas in 2018 that he wished he had been sober earlier in his life.

“I wish I had been sober many years earlier than me, but that’s the way it is,” he said.
“I knew I wasn’t at my full potential, and that was starting to get to me. I was a slave…I was living a very, very small life.
Keith also admitted that he “spit in relationships” before he met Nicole and that the lyrics of his songs about love were far from his reality.
“I would write these songs about love and relationships; I remember writing Someone Like You and playing it for my girlfriend at the time and she just looked at me and said, “You’re a fucking hypocrite”, and I couldn’t contradict,” he said.
