Residents of a care home in Enfield, London picked up their pencils and returned to the drawing board for the 2021 Big Draw Festival.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Elizabeth Lodge on Pennington Drive have partnered with pioneering charity The Big Draw for a successful third year to promote the therapeutic benefits of drawing for the ‘expression and promotion of positive well-being.
As part of their event, team members asked residents what nature-themed outdoor space they would like to recreate – residents chose their own garden at Elizabeth Lodge.
After browsing the outdoor spaces, residents used their inspiration to create a multimedia collage, featuring drawings, tissue paper, paint, and even real flowers. The collage is now displayed in the nursing home for everyone’s enjoyment.
Launched in 2000 as part of the ‘Campaign for Drawing’, the month-long Big Draw Festival promotes drawing as a tool for learning and invention, and has encouraged more than four million people to become arty. since its creation.
‘Make the Change’, this year’s theme focuses on the relationship between people and their living environments, and provides a great opportunity for older people to remember their favorite natural sites, how the environment has changed and how it is. look to the future to find out what action can be taken to help protect the natural world in light of the climate crisis.
Michelle Sampang, Home Manager at Elizabeth Lodge, said: âWe had a great time competing in Big Draw again this year, and it was a wonderful opportunity to put our creativity to the test. Art can take many forms, from drawing to painting to singing.
âAt Elizabeth Lodge, we always love to think outside the box to create imaginative activities that encourage new experiences for residents – so we decided to create a multimedia collage which is now proudly displayed around the house.
âWe regularly encourage residents to participate in therapeutic and artistic activities that promote positive well-being. The entire team looks forward to learning more about the wonderful experiences residents have had throughout their lives and creating imaginative activities that draw on their talents.
