Mysore/Mysore: Famous folk singer Dr. M. Malavalli Mahadevaswamywho received an honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore (UoM) when convoked in March, was congratulated during a program organized by Saptaswara Sinchana Trust in association with Amma Vasundhare Trust at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha on JLB road here friday.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, Mysuru, Medical Superintendent Dr. KS Sadanand said that although he is a medical doctor, Dr. Mahadevaswamy is an Hon. Doctor who cures mental and societal ailments through folk songs.
Emphasizing that music therapy is gaining prominence these days, Dr. Sadanand said Mahadevaswamy folk music is a feast for the mind and ears. It is appropriate that the University paid tribute to the famous folk singer, he added.
Speaking after receiving the congratulation, Dr Mahadevaswamy said no one should ever forget their past. Noting that comedian Dr. Rajkumar was a big inspiration to him, he said he took up folk singing for a living and was happy to have excelled in this art, which was also his life.
Stating that he set up a Trust to Save Folklore, he asked the government for land for the construction of the building, which would be used for teaching and promoting the art.
