Two young people who reside at Bethany Children’s Home attend the Yocum Institute for Art Education’s Dancing with the Reading Stars fundraiser on Friday, April 22, at the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading.
CJ Darden, 16, and Ammo Brown, 13, will face off against nine dancing pairs, including Pete Clauser and Dawn Dietrich, members of Bethany’s team.
Youth have the unique opportunity to work with a Yocum choreographer to create a dance to a song of their choice and perform a 90-second routine in front of a live audience, while raising money for a worthy cause.
The contest is an annual fundraiser for the Yocum Institute. The general public can place $10 votes for the dancing couples now until the evening of the event.
Bethany Children’s Home provides residential and therapeutic services to youth ages 10-21 who have experienced some level of trauma in their lives, such as abandonment, exposure to crime/violence/poverty, violence physical abuse, sexual abuse, drug abuse/exposure to alcohol and/or ongoing placements.
Bethany’s goal is to help every young person reunite in the community by providing trauma-informed programming, family therapy, relationship building, education, life skills development and independent living.
